Cavit G (3M ESPE) has been the gold standard when one goes searching for temporary filling material. We have all read about it in our college textbooks. There are hundreds of scientific articles backing it’s effectiveness. Read my detailed review of Cavit G here. All of us won’t hesitate to use it. But is it the best that can be found in the market?
So, what are the reasons that one should look beyond Cavit G for any other option in the market?
I can think of 2 reasons:
- Cost – Cavit G is one of the costliest temporary filling material in the market.
- Cavit G dries up and gets brittle once the bottle is opened, specially as we reach the end of the jar. This makes it even more expensive as all of the material can’t then be used.

Not only does Cavitemp fulfill the properties of a temporary filling material , it also doesn’t dry up even when you use it for a prolonged period after opening the bottle. And the cherry on top, you can easily source it for 1/3rd the price of Cavit G.
