Cavitemp (Ammdent)

Cavitemp is a temporary eugenol free zinc oxide filling material.

Cavitemp jar
  • Available as 30 gm jar.
  • Self curing under moisture.
Pros:
  • It is an eugenol free temporary material.
  • Self setting in moist conditions.
  • Set filling can be removed with a stiff probe too.
Cons:
  • As it is sensitive to moisture, it can become dry and difficult to use if jar is not closed immediately after use.

How to use:

  • As the material sets in moist conditions, it is not necessary to dry the cavity well before filling it with Cavitemp.
  • Use a filling instrument to fill the cavity. Not necessary to condense the material tightly.
  • Patient should be asked not to chew on that tooth after filling with Cavitemp for 2 hours.

My review of Cavitemp

I won’t lie. I have been a fan of Cavit G for ever. When my materials retailer offered me Cavitemp as his stock of Cavit G had just run out, I was tempted to reject it. On second thoughts, I thought why not try a new product.

Cavitemp works on the same principles of all such temporary cements.

The only point of difference is in it’s workability. It is softer when compared to Cavit G and it slightly difficult to pack. The point to note is such cements do not need thorough packing.

On subsequent appointment, it was hard to remove (as it should be) but could be removed with a sharp instrument or with airotor, just like Cavit G.

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to Cavit G, Cavitemp ticks most of the boxes.
