Review of Being Foshan LED Airotor 401P-B2
NSK, KaVo, W&H are the leading and most recommended brands when it comes to airoter handpieces. Most of us would have used one or more of these brands, some time during our clinical practice.
Being Foshan is a new company from China, which has been bringing more affordable airoters to the market.
Being Foshan LED Airotor is available for nearly 1/5th of the cost of similar LED handpieces from the established brands mentioned earlier. Even the non-LED handpieces are also aggressively priced.
Question that arises is how can we trust these ‘cheaper’ handpieces?
DON’T. You should always try it out first. The turbines are the most precious part of the handpiece. It is most abused while sectioning crowns. Get the ‘cheaper’ handpiece to try it out on these procedures first.
Of all the cheaper handpieces, I have found Being Foshan to be the most reliable. Their out of the box experience is comparable and at times even better to that of NSK. On the long run, you do expect a NSK like brand to outlive and outperform a Being Foshan. Even in the long run, I have found Being Foshan handpieces to last nearly half the life-term of an established brand. With the cost of cartridges (turbine) being comparatively cheaper then the established brands, Being Foshan handpieces can not just be your standby but also your main handpiece.
I have used Being Foshan LED Airotor 401P-B2 for some time now and found it to be a good handpiece. Does what is asked of it. With rotating speed of 380,000 – 450,000, it provides a good cutting speed too. Using the correct burs you can easily section a metal crown, without the bur stalling for want of cutting speed. Avoid using old burs with any handpiece, as it damages the turbines.
It claims to have a sound limit below 70 dB. The sound is low, with use increases in the long term but is within acceptable and safe limits for both dentist and patient.
The triple jet of external irrigation provides adequate cooling.
The cooling water pressure and positioning of the 3 water nozzles means at times there will be water spatter on the dentist and the patient. This can be disconcerting. One way to minimize it is to reduce water flow. Reducing the water speed reduces cutting efficiency for diamond burs. You will have to come to a compromise on this.
Similarly, single LED light source can at times get blocked due to it’s positioning.
Even with these disadvantages, which can be corrected over future designs, Being Foshan LED Airotor 401P-B2 is a very capable LED handpiece.
You want a dependable handpiece but also one which can be easily serviced and cartridges replaced. Start by using Being Foshan LED Airotor 401P-B2 as a standby handpiece and can if you like, upgrade it.
