Pros of Super-Snap Mini Kit:
- The mini kit is designed as a trial kit but contains all the discs in different variations and sizes to complete the contouring, finishing and polishing of direct restorations.
- Contains silicon carbide abrasive grits for contouring and finishing. Aluminium oxide abrasive coating allows polishing of the restoration.
Direction for use of Super-Snap Mini Kit:
- Mount the disk securely on the christmas tree shaped mandrel on a micromotor.
- Should be used in low speed between 10,000-15,000 rpm in a dry field.
- The disc should be used in an unidirectional motion with featherweight pressure (0.3-0.6 N).
- Sequence of disc should be maintained for final best results.

- Always remove any debris from previous step before proceeding with the next disc. This prevents secondary scratches while finishing the restoration.
- As the discs are disposable, they should be discarded after use.
- The metal mandrel can be autoclaved in a closed autoclavable pouch 134°C for 3 minutes.
Cons of Super-Snap Mini Kit:
- The mini kit doesn’t contain the inter-promixal finishing strips which are required for finishing the inter-proximal areas.
- Though 2 disc sizes (12 mm & 8 mm) are available for use in different areas of the tooth, sometimes the disc is not able to access all the areas/surfaces of the tooth to complete finishing and polishing. This is frequently seen in the cervical inter-proximal regions.
Review of Super-Snap Mini Kit:
Super-Snap Mini Kit from Shofu is a well know armamentarium in the dental office. I have used it for years for finishing and polishing my direct restorations specially composites. It is very important to follow the instructions as mentioned in ‘directions for use‘ to get the best results.
Another problem you always will face is while polishing posterior direct restorations as it is difficult to use discs in posteriors. There use of finishing burs is a better option with polishing done using buffs and polishing pastes.
Though it lacks the inter-proximal strips (it should be purchased separately), this kit is a must when you are starting your dental practice.
