Review of Aspirating Syringe 1.8 mL
Aspirating Syringe 1.8 mL from GDC is a Cook-Waite type of aspirating syringe. It has a very good build and lasts very long even with regular use and multiple autoclaves.
It has a wide viewing chamber which is ideal to see the dosage of anaesthetic injected.
It works excellently with Septoject needles and Septodont cartridges.
The main reason to buy this syringe compared to the non-aspirating type (which is cheaper too) is the functionality of ‘aspiration’.
So does it work?
I have found it to be more of a ‘miss’ compared to a ‘hit’. Similar Cook-Waite aspirating syringes from other manufacturers have smaller and sharper harpoon on top of the piston which helps it to easily pierce the rubber plunger at the back of the cartridge, which enables the aspiration. Aspirating Syringe 1.8 mL from GDC has a bigger harpoon and hence doesn’t pierce the rubber.
Would I recommend it?
It has very selective use only in situations where aspiration in not required. There are better products in the market albeit costlier.
