Review of Aquasil Soft Putty/Regular Set

I have been using Aquasil soft putty regular set for over 10 years now. During my use, I have found it to be extremely reliable in using it as a tray material.

‘Putty’ basically ‘converts’ a stock pre-fabricated tray into a custom tray.

Aquasil soft putty is used in both, single step double mix technique or in 2 step putty wash technique.

It’s maximum compressive strain of 3.5%, combined with high recovery from deformation of 99.5% , provides flexibility to be removed in undercut areas.

Soft putty gives a detail reproduction of <50µm. I would NOT use it without light body impression material.

Another problem you may face is manipulating it wearing latex gloves. It is sticky and difficult to manipulate wearing latex gloves. Also, latex gloves hinders with the setting of the impression. Asking your assistant to manipulate or wearing a non-latex gloves (nitrile) is the way out of this problem.

I have not only used Aquasil putty regular set for crown and bridge impressions, but also in making single step border moulding in complete denture impressions.

I have used Affinis Putty and President putty too.

I would recommend Aquasil soft putty regular set for making impressions.
