Affinis Light Body (Coltene)

Affinis Light Body is a silicone-based impression material for use in dentistry with automatic mixing device (gun).

Affinis light body kit
  • Polyvinylsiloxane, addition type silicone elastomer.
  • Low consistency/viscosity .
  • Base – White ; catalyst – Light green
  • Available as 2 cartridge of 50ml each.
Pros:
  • Cartridge auto mixing provides easy of handling specially intra-orally.
  • Dimensionally stable for at least a week.
Cons:
  • As all such materials are hydrophobic in nature, isolation of the working area and/or drying of the tray in a 2 step technique is very important.
  • Requires no or minimal movement of the tray for accuracy of the impression during setting.
Indications:
  • In putty – wash impression technique.
  • Impressions for reling of denture.

How to use:

  • Always use a well fitting gun for the cartridge.
  • Assemble the cartridge on the gun and remove the cap. Eject a small amount of material till both base and catalyst extrudes equally.
  • Then wipe the cartridge opening and tighten the mixing tip and intra-oral tip.
  • Squeeze the trigger smoothly and with equal pressure to dispense the material. Never remove the mixing tip from the dispensed material on the tray while dispensing. This reduces air entrapment in the material.

My review of Affinis Light Body

I have used Affinis Light body over the past 2-3 years and found it to give extremely accurate results specially in a single step double mix technique. It’s low viscosity makes it an ideal candidate for wash impressions of high accuracy. If you are one who prefers light body tubes to save on wastage of material in the mixing tips, you can extrude the material using a gun onto a mixing pad and hand mix it.
