D-Pulp is a pulp devitalizing paste.
- Paraformaldehyde
- Paste form
- 7.5 gm
How to use D-Pulp?
- Remove carious dentine and exposed pulp as much as possible.
- Apply a pellet of around 10mg to the pulp.
- Seal the cavity with a temporary/definitive cement for a period of 7 days.
- The process may be repeated again if required after 7 days.
- Proceed with your preferred endodontic therapy protocol.
My review of D-Pulp
There are multiple brands of pulp devitalizer available in the market.
Paraformaldehyde is used to fix the pulp. This devitalizes the pulp.
In most of my cases, I prefer not to use any pulp devitalizer, but if and when it is required, D-Pulp does the job efficiently.
Some points to remember :
- Use minimal quantity. Excess may leech out. This may cause cytotoxicity of tissues and/or necrosis of bone.
- Close the cavity immediately with a temporary or definitive cement.
- If pain is observed while applying D-pulp, local anaesthetic can be injected into the exposed pulp.
Once opened, it should be used as fast as possible, preferably within a year. Between use, close the lid tightly, otherwise the consistency of the paste changes.
