Metapex Plus

Metapex Plus is a calcium hydroxide temporary filling material from Meta Biomed, Korea.

Metapex plus syringe
  • Available as premixed syringes
    • 1 syringe x 2.2 gm + 20 disposable tips + 1 endo stop
    • 2 syringe x 2.2 gm + 20 disposable tips + 1 endo stop
    • 1 syringe x 0.8 gm + 1 disposable tip +1 endo stop
  • Shelf life is 2 years.
Uses of Metapex Plus:
  • Pulp capping and pulpotomy.
  • Intra canal medicament.
  • Root canal restoration for decidous teeth.
  • Apexification.
Metapex Plus Composition:
  • Iodoform ( For radiopacity) – 37%
  • Calcium hydroxide ( alkaline) – 36 %
  • Polydimethylsiloxane – <27%
Advantages of Metapex Plus:
  • Calcium hydroxide provides an alkaline environment and anti bacterial action too.
  • Premixed and dispensed in syringes. Tips are flexible and long enough to access apical region of even curved roots.
  • Iodoform provides excellent radiopacity.
  • It is soluble.
How to use Metapex Plus:
  • Attach a new disposable tip to the syringe.
  • Always extrude a small amount of the material outside and discard it before inserting the attached disposable tip into the root canal.
  • Press the piston to dispense the material.
  • As you see paste reversing back, withdraw the tip. Do not pull the piston back to stop the flow of material.
  • Discard the used tip and close the syringe with the lid provided.
  • Never push material beyond the Apex.
  • The syringe should be stored away from sunlight in a dry place at room temperature (1-30°C).

Review of Metapex Plus

Metapex Plus is a calcium hydroxide temporary filling material of choice. It’s solubility makes it a good candidate to be used as a root canal filling material for deciduous teeth.

Relative density of Metapex Plus is around 2gm/cm3 . This makes it slightly dense and more difficult to dispense using the narrow thin tips provided with the syringe. When using in broader roots, the 2-3mm from the end of the tip can be cut, thereby facilitating the dispensing of material.
