Tenax Fiber Trans Post (Coltene)

Tenax Fiber Trans Post is a translucent fiber resin tapered post.

Tenax-Fiber-Trans-Post-TFT11
  • Available as packs of 5 post each.
  • Size of 1.1, 1.3, & 1.5 mm.
  • 4% taper in the bottom third.

Pros:
  • Available in 3 different widths, which fits most of the canal dimensions.
  • 4 % taper only in the bottom third.
  • Comes with its own set of drills. Is also compatible with peeso and gates glidden drills.
  • Can also be used as parallel post.
  • It’s translucent hence light can pass through it while using light cure.

Cons:
  • Not easy to identify on a radiograph as it’s not very radio-opaque. This property though provides for better ability of light to pass through while using light cure.

How to use Tenax Fiber Trans Post

  • Leaving 4-5 mm of GP apically, appropriate length to which post space preparation is to be done, should be determined.
  • Another point to remember is 1.5-2mm of ferrule all around the tooth i.e., sound tooth structure should be available.
  • Using a peeso drill, post space can be prepared according to selected size of the post.

1.1 mm (TFT11)#2
1.3 mm (TFT13)#4
1.5 mm (TFT15)#5 or #6
  • The Tenax fiber Trans drills can be used as final drills before cementation of posts.
  • Anti – rotational boxes can be prepared for further retention.
  • The selected post should be checked in canal. I prefer a minimal tug – back. Take a radiograph to confirm.
  • Clean & dry the post space and fiber post.
  • Follow the manufacturers instruction while using the resin cement.
  • Always coat the surface of the post with cement. If and only if time permits, fill the post space too with cement and use lentulo-spiral to coat the canal walls , before placing the fiber post and holding it in place for 60 secs. Light cure.
  • Core is built thereafter.
  • Manufacturer says you should adjust the length of the post before cementation. I prefer to do it afterwards. Firstly because it is easier to hold the post and secondly its easy to judge the length once core build up is completed. Use airoter with water to cut the excess length.
  • In case you want to use Tenax Fiber Trans post as parallel post, you will require Parapost drills as the finishing drills. In such a case, the non-tapered part of the fiber post is placed in the canal apically and the tapered part is shortened to necessary length.

Review of Tenax Fiber Trans Post

Not much can be faulted with the Tenax Fiber Trans posts. It’s versatility to be used as tapered and parallel posts comes in handy when such a situation arises.

More than it’s versatility, it’s availability in 3 sizes which are the closest to canal dimension, makes it very popular. You will definitely use the TFT11 and TFT13, more than TFT15 and hence can order accordingly.

Retention boxes though advised by the manufacturer can be slightly tricky to implement and can be avoided if the operator is unsure.

All in all, Tenax Fiber Trans fiber post, though slightly costly when compared to some other fiber posts available in the market, it’s available sizes, versatility and translucence will justify the slight premium in cost. Also, when used with Paracore (Coltene) as a luting cement and a core build up material, I think it becomes a complete package.
