Shofu CX-Smart HyBond Glasionomer is dual-cure GIC manufactured by Shofu, in Japan.

- Manufactured as a powder and liquid combination.
- Packaging is of 2 types:
- Regular
- Powder 45 gm & Liquid 30 gm (25 ml) , Mixing Pad, Spatula
- Mini
- Powder 15 gm & Liquid 8.3 ml
- Regular
Indications:
- Permanent cementation of crowns, bridges, inlays.
- Cementation of orthodontic metal brackets and bands.
Pros:
- It’s a dual cure cement, and can be cured by light or self cure.
- Hy-agent, “a tannic acid-strontium fluoride-zinc fluoride complex” that is known to promote re-mineralization, increase acid resistance and reduce solubility with anti-bacterial properties while virtually eliminating post-op hypersensitivity.
- A polyvalent acrylic-tricarboxylic acid co-polymer formulation imparts ideal thixotropicity, so the cement easily flows under pressure to a uniform film thickness for a perfect fit.
- It exhibits a sharp clinical set, reducing chair time and effortless removal of excess cement for a clean finish and greater patient comfort.
Cons:
- Just like other GIC cements, it suffers from solubility of cement at the edge/margins, leading to decementation of prosthesis.
- It’s bond strength though adequate for it’s indications, it is still lower when compared to resin cements.
Directions for use:
- Clean the abutment tooth and isolate it.
- Gently shake the powder bottle to loosen the powder before dispensing. Always use the measuring scoop provided and level off the powder for accurate dosage.
- Invert the liquid bottle prior to use to dispense drops of bubble-free liquid. The nozzle tip should not contact the mixing pad.
- Dispense 1 scoop of Powder and 2 drops of Liquid, separately. Standard Powder to Liquid ratio is 2.0 g : 1.0 g
- Mix Powder and Liquid evenly with a plastic spatula within 30 sec.
| Mixing time (23 °C) | 30 seconds | |
| Working time (23 °C) | 2 minutes | From start of mixing. |
| Setting time (37 °C) | 2 minutes 30 seconds | After seating the restoration in patient’s mouth. |
- In cases of ambient temperature is higher than 23 °C, working time will be shortened, and if the temperature is lower than 23 °C, working time will be elongated.
- Apply the cement mixture evenly on the restoration surface to be cemented. Seat the restoration onto the cavity or abutment tooth. Hold in place with moderate pressure until the cement sets. Standard setting time is approximately 2’30” after placing the restoration.
- Remove excess cement with an sharp instrument after it exhibits rubber consistency (1 min. – 2 min. after placing the restoration in patient’s mouth)
- Store at room temperature (1-30 °C). Avoid high temperature and high humidity. Keep away from direct sunlight.
Review of Shofu CX-Smart HyBond Glasionomer
There are 2 reasons to choose Shofu CX-Smart (HyBond Glasionomer) over any other GIC, it’s firstly because it is a dual cure cement and secondly because it is comparatively economical compared to other brands.
Removal of excess cement is very easy in the rubbery stage, which can significantly reduce chair time.
The above advantages makes Shofu CX-Smart HyBond Glasionomer an ideal replacement of GC Glass Ionomer Luting & Lining Cement.
