3M™ Elipar™ L DeepCure LED Curing Light

Elipar Deep Cure L & S models
  • Lightweight
  • Cordless
  • 1,470 mW/cm2 focused light in 430-480 nm
Pros:
  • ‘L’ in the name denotes lightweight. It is made of plastic and weighs 180 grams only. The other version, 3M™ Elipar™ DeepCure-S LED Curing Light, is made of Stainless Steel and is heavier (250 grams).
  • Elipar L light cure is cordless and can hold 120 minutes of cure time once charged completely.
  • It provides a focused light of 1,470 mW/cm2 for polymerization of light-curing dental materials with photo initiator for the wavelength range of 430-480 nm.
  • Pre set cure time of 5, 10, 15 and 20 sec is available. It also has a continuous mode (120 sec.) and a tack cure mode.
  • If you have the old charger (Elipar model), you can use it for this model too.
  • The black light guide, which is friction attached to the body of the light cure prevents any stray light and glare.
Cons:
  • The ‘L’ model doesn’t come with a charging stand (S model does). This makes it awkward to handle it safely both while charging and while using.
  • The battery can only be changed by an authorized service centre. ( Can be changed by clinician himself in the S model)
  • Use of higher intensity for longer period of time can lead to discomfort to the patient. It is hence advised to use in intermittent interval of 2 exposures of 10 seconds each.

My Review of 3M™ Elipar™ L DeepCure LED Curing Light

I have been using 3M™ Elipar™ L DeepCure LED Curing Light for over 5 years now. It has till date not caused me any trouble and I can be totally confident of my composite polymerizing completely.

When compared to other LED curing lights in the market, this may seem an expensive buy initially but in the long run will be worth it.

With a light intensity of 1,470 mW/cm2 , you might be tempted to cure it for shorter time, but it is advised to follow the composite manufacturer instructions.

Similarly, you might want to cure a thicker layer of composite in one go but it is again advisable to follow the manufacturers instructions here too. Remember to place the guide light of the curing tip as close to the tooth as possible while curing. This results in curing till the depth of the composite restoration. In bulk fill composites, you can obviously cure up to 4 mm layer of composite in one go.

Technical specifications of L and S model are nearly the same with main difference lying in the make of body and charging method. When you are getting the ‘L’ model at a 35% lower cost as compared to S model, it make all the sense to go for the L model.
